"Warship Poseidon" wins the 2015 Independent Author Network Book of the Year award for Outstanding Action/Adventure!
Adding to the Clive Cussler Collector's Society's Adventure Writer's Competition win in 2012, "Warship Poseidon" (entered as Skull Eye Island) has now won the Action/Adventure category in the 2015 Independent Author Network Book of the Year competition. After becoming a finalist in the First Novel, Historical Novel and Action/Adventure Novel categories, "Warship Poseidon" was announced the Action/Adventure winner on August 16th (at 12:54 AM). "It was amazing," author Peter Greene said. "I heard my phone beep with an email in the middle of the night, and thought that I should check it because I heard nothing all day from the contest. I was resigned to accept a 'finalist' honor - still pretty awesome - but winning a category would be awesome-er! I read the email and woke up my wife to tell her. She mumbled 'that's nice, sweetie' and went back to sleep."
"Castle of Fire", the second book in the Jonathan Moore series, was also selected as a finalist in the Action/Adventure category. "So I kicked my own butt, I guess," said Greene. |

Starpoint School Invites Author to Class!December 2013: Principal Dr. Marilyn Tolbert of Starpoint School, located on the beautiful Texas Christian University campus in Fort Worth, Texas, invited author Peter Greene to speak to her students about writing and story telling. In addition, Greene's reading skills were tested by a request for him to recite several pages from Skull Eye Island (now titled Warship Poseidon) to the class.
"I'm an old Theatre major," Greene said. "No problem!" Starpoint School is a laboratory school where the staff is committed to the ideal that all children can learn. The goal is to provide an individualized academic program which helps children learn to compensate for their learning difficulties, build on their own strengths, develop a positive attitude about schools and learning, and perform to the best of their capabilities in their next educational setting. The mission of the Starpoint School is to serve as an on-campus training site for TCU students in the College of Education and other university programs. TCU students are an active and vital part of Starpoint as observers, practice teachers, classroom aides and beginning educational researchers. TCU professors are also available to offer their expertise and knowledge to Starpoint staff and students. "I have a degree in education," Greene said, "and have logged many hours of student teaching in various schools. I have never seen the likes of Starpoint. These students are intelligent, engaging and creative. The teachers are dedicated and excited about teaching and their students' development. If I attended Starpoint as a kid, I'd be pretty successful by now! The students were really funny, too! A sure sign of intelligence in my opinion." The author and students exercised their creative abilities by writing a story during the visit. "All the students participated in the writing and in a lively question and answer period," said Greene, "which included, somehow, me being compared to Abraham Lincoln. Kids say the darndest things!" After speaking to two separate groups, Greene signed copies of Skull Eye Island (now titled Warship Poseidon) for each child and awarded copies of Castle of Fire (the second book in the trilogy) to a few students who had already read over a millions words for the year.
"What is amazing, is that each student in the third grade class read over a million words by the end of December. I was proud that Skull Eye Island's eighty-thousand were among them," Greene said. During the reading of Skull Eye Island's first chapter, the author did his impression of major character Steward and his irritating cackle-laugh. As one would expect, there were no requests for a repeat performance. Talking to school children is no new thing to Greene. He spoke to students at FOUNTAIN HILLS MIDDLE SCHOOL in Arizona last May, and donated books for each student. Greene's publisher, Sven Gillhoolie Enterprises, said the author is available for school visits and talks upon request and availability. Requests can be made using the information on the contact page. |
Skull Eye Island Wins 2012 Adventure Writers Competition's Grand Master Award
Scottsdale AZ: The Clive Cussler Collectors Society announced Peter Greene, author of the adventure book "Skull Eye Island" as the 2012 Adventure Writer's pick for the Grand Master Award.
"A robust story of a young lad in the British navy during the Nelson years. A thorough insight and beautiful portrait of those days under wind blown sails and the creak of wooden hulls. Peter Greene has created a story that shines from every page. An excellent book. He truly nails an insight of nineteenth century sailing ships and their crews." - Clive Cussler
"It was surreal meeting Clive and Dirk Cussler," said Peter. "And to have them say nice things about my book was mind-blowing! After meeting the other competitors, I was struck with not only the quality of their work, but the quality of the people. Just first rate." The prize money was donated to the Somaly Mam Organization. The Somaly Mam organization in no way endorses or financially supports the writings of Peter Greene in any way. But they do help a lot of people gain their freedom.
